Department of Sustainable Technologies

History of Department of Sustainable Technologies stretches into 1967 when it was established together with Division of Animal Production in Tropics and Subtropics and Division of Crop Production in Tropics and Subtropics as a part of Institute of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture in 1967. DST was firstly known as Division of Agricultural Mechanization in Tropics and Subtropics with doc. Ing. Jiří Jára, CSc. as a head of division. Change of Higher Education Act and new status of University of Agriculture in Prague (UA) in 1981 was turning point in department evolution. ITSA was exempted from force of Faculty of Economy and Management. Since then ITSA became subordinated directly to rector of UA in Prague and its divisions were transformed into departments. Division of Agricultural Mechanization in Tropics and Subtropics was renamed as Department of Agricultural Mechanization in Tropics and Subtropics in 1981 and Prof. Ing. Josef Oubrecht, CSc. became new head of department.

Department of Agricultural Mechanization in Tropics and Subtropics and Department of economy in Tropics and Subtropics were integrated into Department of Technical and Economical Development of Rural Areas in Tropics and Subtropics (DTEDRATS) in 1991 and head of department became doc. Ing. Karel Otto, CSc.. Department was providing lectures and research in field of agricultural engineering, agricultural technologies and economy since its establishment. ITSA was renamed as Institute of Tropics and Subtropics (ITS) in 2005 and DTEDRATS was also renamed as Department of Engineering, Economy and Development of Rural Areas in Tropics and Subtropics (DEEDRATS).
