Biogas
The main long-term research interest of the Biogas Research Team is to reveal current state, bottlenecks and perspectives of small-scale and medium-scale biogas plants in Southeast Asian countries. The main objective of currently solved research is to determine the real impact of small biogas plants in developing countries on environment and to climate change and to contribute crucially to the current global debate on small biogas plants in developing countries.

Food Security
The research is focused on various aspects of food security in developing countries. The most important part of the research is oriented on food processing technology and its applicability in developing countries in order to ensure sufficient production of good quality and healthy foods. The priority of our research is the preservation of food using economically viable techniques based on renewable energy sources (e.g .solar drying, solar cooking) as well as the use of natural compounds as food preservants. Other part of the research is dedicated to the monitoring of different socio-economic aspects influencing food security (e.g. agriculture practices, land tenure systems, agriculture policy), including the evaluation of the quality of food produced in developing countries.

Biofuels
Research is focused on the study of biomass, a promising renewable energy source with great potential. It primarily deals with the properties of solid biofuels (briquettes and pellets) made from different types of biomass, their mixtures, interesting energy plants and agricultural waste.
