Laboratory of fragmentation analysis and sequencing of DNA

Research Topics > Laboratory of fragmentation analysis and sequencing of DNA

The laboratory was founded in 2009, when, as part of the Department's investment campaign, with the participation of the Faculty's dean's office, the premises of the basement room, which had been used as a storage room, were rebuilt. The impetus for the reconstruction was the acquisition of the MSM project to equip the department with capillary electrophoresis. Reconstruction work, air conditioning and furnishing totaled almost 600,000 CZK. In September 2010, the laboratory was equipped with the Genetic Analyzer ABI PRISM 310, and in November, the department's staff were trained. The first sequencing and fragmentation analyzes were performed in December 2010, and since then the instrument has been operating practically without interruption. The equipment is used for solving research projects of the department, for solving bachelor's and diploma theses of the Faculty's students, and for the implementation of exercises in all subjects focused on genetics and breeding of animals and plants, which the department guarantees. Between 2020 and 2023 the ABI 310 was twice repaired, when broken laser unit was replaced. One action was supported by Faculty, the second one was fully covered by Department.
