Plant in vitro cultures in the Department's research
Since 2005, in connection with the demise of the Laboratory of Plant Explants and the establishment of the Department of Quality and Processing of Agricultural Products, part of the disturbed equipment (flowbox and culture shaker) was acquired, and this equipment provided the basis for the realization of plant in vitro cultures. The work followed on from a project that was solved with the Potato Research Institute Havlíčkův Brod s.r.o. and from this moment the department's laboratory research could also develop along a different line than the molecular one. In 2006, the ECM 2000 cell manipulator (pictured at the top right) was purchased as part of the FRVŠ project, which enables the manipulation of plant, animal and bacterial cells. In relation to in vitro cultures, unique equipment for breeding application was obtained. The first somatic hybridizations were carried out in 2007 and resulted in somatic hybrids of dihaploid clones of potato with the donor of genes for resistance to potato blight in the species Solanum bulbocastanum tested ex vitro since 2008 on the school demonstration plot. As a successful result of many months of work, the technique was incorporated into the teaching of the subject Cytology and Karyology, the equipment as a whole and the results of the work are then the subject of demonstration exercises and excursions within subjects with genetic and breeding themes. The experience with this technique was also applied in the form of a short dynamic demonstration in the presentation video clip We are a living university (30-32 seconds of the recording).
Skleník
Katedra pro účely výzkumu získala skleníkovou kóji v nově zbudovaném skleníku v roce 2006. V roce 2010 prošel náročnou rekonstrukcí - vybavením klimatizací - financovanou Fakultou se spoluúčastí pracoviště. Skleník je využíván jak pro řešení výzkumných aktivit vyplývajících ze zadání grantových projektů, tak k demonstračním účelům v rámci pedagogických aktivit katedry a řešení studentských prací.
