Baikal expedition

Gallery > Field work > Baikal expedition

The month-long stay at Baikal was conducted for the purpose of data collection. Around Swan Lake behind the mountains surrounding Baikal and the village of Sarma, a group of scientists and students recorded the singing of birds from the long-tailed rosefinch, the spotted woodpecker and the pine bunting, as well as the long-tailed ground squirrel. There was no shortage of experiences; the very boat trip on a wild river, or the mooring on muddy and dilapidated roads, were definitely worth it. The birdsong began before dawn, so we needed to get up very early. But this did not deter anyone, because they were rewarded with the breathtaking scenery around Baikal.
